5th CD Research Project

As those of you who attended the recent 5th CD Democratic Convention are aware, our membership approved adoption of a new Research Project which was proposed by our own Suzanne Davidson.

It asks citizen activists to do some watchdogging on our Republican opponents in the 5th CD to help keep them honest, do some fact checking and document their positions on a myriad of issues.

Since we can't do it all ourselves, and it is difficult if not impossible for most volunteer campaign staffs for political candidates to do while they are simultaneously organizing campaign functions, we are asking volunteers to gather information and send it out to us as they gather the information.

Digital copies of the information, or printed/scanned material, recordings - audio or video, and backup documentation of where and when you got the information in the first place, and who is submitting the information (along with their contact information, name, phone, address, and email address if possible), in case we need to call you for additional information, would be extremely helpful and reduce the workload on our volunteer staff, as well as helping to elmiinate redundant efforts.

When you gather the information, we request that you keep a copy for yourselves, just in case the material gets lost in the transfer/handoff, and provide copies to your local County officials and/or Congressional District officers so that we can compile the data for future campaigns, and informational bulletins to the citizens of the 5th CD.

Make sure that your local County officials are made aware that the intended end recipient is the Congressional District officers so we can keep a central file for all of this information.

The approved proposal is as follows and includes email addresses for you to send information to.

Thank you in advance for your assistance in this project.

Your efforts will help all of us do a better job of responding to your concerns.

5th CD Research Project

Purpose of the project: to gather materials about Republican officeholders in the district for use by our Democratic candidates in the next election.

 Campaign materials from the last election (flyers, mail pieces, articles, notes from phone calls)
 Constituent newsletters
 Letters or e-mails sent in reply to constituents
 Notes or recordings taken at townhall meetings, speeches
 Letters to the editor or articles written by or concerning the officeholder
 Anything else you find that would be valuable for a Democrat to know about his or her opponent

This is what you can do to help:

1. Start collecting materials about your officeholders that come into your home. This includes anything from the past that you still have.
2. Attend speeches or townhall meetings, take notes or record the event, and pick up handouts.
Send materials to your county party or congressional district officers who will forward them to the central file, or if possible, send scanned materials or Internet links to the following e-mail addresses:

(We request that the information be separated according to relevancy to each individual County, and if the material spans more than one county that that information is sent out to each of the Counties affected/involved. That way we can keep the material separated for ease of access and later distribution.)
